Dr. S.P Agarwal Engaged in research & development work in the area of new alternative building materials using agro-industrial wastes and renewable materials to conserve conventional building materials for sustainable development with the green concept. Developed number of value added products as alternative building materials and technologies for construction industry which include Coir-CNSL Board as wood alternative (eco-friendly), bagasse-cement composites, bagasse-PVC composites, bagasse-LDPE waste composites, Low density boards for thermal and acoustic insulation using paper industry waste, Arhar stalk-cement composite, paper from pine needles, rigid PVC foam boards etc. Most of these developed products and technologies are for wood alternatives. Many of them are patented and a few commercialized too. Other aspects of the experience include material characterization and performance evaluation, quality control, material selection and techno-economic feasibility studies of newer technologies. The recent work was the bio-degradable nursery pots using forest waste. This development will not only lead to the utilization of huge forest waste generating every year but also save the forests from fire besides employment generation. Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India supported this work. Another activity was the development of multi functional wall tiles having dual purpose using Kota stone waste. This work has the support from DST, New Delhi. Also provided technical support/consultancy to organisation from abroad for replacement of asbestos fiber with natural cellulosic fibers for making corrugated roofing sheets with cement, use of rubur wood pulp for making hard board and MDF boards.Published more than 70 research papers in National and International journals & Seminars/Symposiums.
