Biography

Tahir Cagin is professor in Material Science and Engineering at Texas A &M University. His Research Interests include computational materials science and nanotechnology with emphasis on design characterization and development of multifunctional nano-structured materials for device and sensor applications, fundamental studies on transport phenomena (heat, mass and momentum) at nanoscale and in confined media, thermal, mechanical, electronic and magnetic properties and phase behavior of materials, materials for thermal management, power generation and energy harvesting, development and application of multiscale simulation methods.He has received the 1999 Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology (Theory), William Keeler Faculty Fellow. He has several publications to his credit.

Dr Yadav is an eminent scientist with a high level of commitment to the cause of his profession viz., Natural Products-Organic Chemistry. Dr Yadav’s expertise and skills in organic chemistry are outstanding and is a member of prestigious scientific bodies like Department of Science and Technology, Technical Advisory Board (TAB) and a National representative of International Union for Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). He has received many academic and Industrial Awards viz., Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award (1991), Vasvik Award in Chemical Sciences & Technology (1999), Ranbaxy Research Award in Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is also a Fellow of JC Bose (DST, GOI) 2005. The World Academy of Sciences for the developing World (FTWAS) 2006, Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences (FASc) 2010, National Academy of Sciences (1993),Indian National Science Academy (1998), Member of A P Academy of Sciences (2001) etc. He has to his credit about 1100 research publications in various reputed national and International journals. He also has 150 Indian and International Patents to his credit. Dr Yadav is sought after as a research guide for doctoral and postdoctoral programs and more than 195 research scholars obtained their degrees under his guidance. He is a recognized guide in most of the academic institutions in the country.

Dr. Kai Shen is an Assistant Professor in Chemistry and forensic Sciences. Dr. Shen was trained in chemical engineering at China University of Mining and Technology. He completed his doctoral studies at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology under supervision of Dr. Tanja Pietraß, where he explored the relationship of carbon nanotube’s structural features and its gas storage properties. He also earned his Master of Science degree in Biology with Dr. Snezna Rogelj, with a focus on phage display technology. He then moved to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center as an NIH sponsored postdoctoral fellow in Dr. David Horita’s lab to conduct the structural and functional studies of NADPH oxidases. He received his second postdoctoral training, working with Dr. Sharon Campbell to investigate functions of focal adhesion proteins in cellular mechano transduction, at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. In 2012, Dr. Shen accepted the appointment as an assistant professor in the Natural Science (later on Chemistry and Forensic Science) Department at Savannah State University.His research Interests include Protein structural and functional studies, especially on those proteins involved in cardiovascular diseases and Alzheimer’s disease; energy applications of nanomaterials

Dr. Steven S. Smith, B.S., Ph.D. is a Professor of Molecular Science at the Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope in Duarte, California. He is a member of the City of Hope’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and an Associate member of the Department of Urology and Urological Oncology at the City of Hope National Medical Centerwhere he is Associate Director of the Prostate Cancer Research Program. Steve has made numerous contributions to the study of DNA methylation in human cells. His research led him to propose that the phenomenon of DNA methylation and its epigenetic effects are tightly linked to the requirements imposed on biology by DNA conformation space. Current research in that area continues to shed light on the interplay between DNA conformation, DNA methylation and cancer. He is a past finalist for the Feynman Award, and was honored as a Computerworld/Honors Laureate for Visionary Use of Information Technology in Medicine.

Professor Krishan Lal is the President, The Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) Laue-Bragg Chair Professor and Principal Chief Scientists, Amity University UP, NOIDA. His research interests include Solid State Physics; Materials Characterization; Crystal Growth & Lattice Imperfections, High Resolution X-ray Diffraction, Instrumentation; Quality Management, Certified Reference Materials and Data for Materials. He was Honoured by Prime Minister of India during Inaugural Session of Indian Science Congress Session 2014. Dr Krishan Lal has: edited 9 Books/Volumes, published 22 Invited Papers in journals / Chapters in Books, more than 100 research papers in refereed journals and 7 patents to his credit.

Nitish V. Thakor is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering. Nitish V. Thakor served on the faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the Northwestern University from 1981 to 1983, and since then he has been with the Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, where he is currently serving as a Professor of Biomedical Engineering. He conducts research on neurological instrumentation, biomedical signal processing, micro and nanotechnologies, neural prosthesis, clinical applications of neural and rehabilitation technologies and brain-machine interface. He has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications on these subjects. Currently Dr. Thakor directs the Laboratory for Neuroengineering and is also the Director of the NIH Training Grant on Neuroengineering. One of his current research projects, in collaboration with a multi-University consortium funded by DARPA, is to develop a next generation neurally controlled upper limb prosthesis. He is actively engaged in developing international scientific programs, collaborative exchanges, tutorials and conferences in the field of Biomedical Engineering.

Dr. V. Ramgopal Rao is a P. K. Kelkar Chair Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Chief Investigator for the Centre of Excellence in Nanoelectronics project at IIT Bombay. Dr. Rao has over 400 publications in the area of Electron Devices & Nanoelectronics in refereed international journals and conference proceedings and is an inventor on 32 patents (including 13 US patents) and patent applications, with many of his patents licensed to industries for commercialization. He is also a co-founder of the company NanoSniff Technologies Pvt. Ltd. at IIT Bombay which is developing products in the area of Nanotechnology. Prof. Rao's work is recognized with many awards and honors in the country and abroad. He is a recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Engineering Sciences in 2005 and the Infosys Prizein 2013.

Dr. Xing-Jie Liang got his Ph.D at National Key Laboratory of Biomacromolecules, Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He finished his postdoc with Dr. Michael M. Gottesman (Deputy Director of NIH, USA) for 5 years at Laboratory of Cell Biology, Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. Then, he worked as a Research Fellow at Surgical Neurology Branch, NINDS (National Institute of Neurological Diseases and Strokes, NIH) for 2 years. In 2007, he was an Assistant professor at Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, Howard University. Dr. Liang currently is deputy director of Key Laboratory for Biomedical Effects of Nanomaterials and Nanosafety, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Lab Chief of Laboratory of Controllable Nanopharmaceuticals, National Center for Nanoscience and Technology of China. He is also leading a group on nanopharmaceuticals at the CAS Center for Excellence in Nanoscience. Dr. Xing-Jie Liang is a founder member of International Society of Nanomedicine, member of American Association for Cancer Research, and member of American Society of Cell Biology. Dr. Xing-Jie Liang is also deputy director of Nanomedicine and Nanopharmaceuticals Committee at Society of Nanobiology and Nanomedicine and Deputy Director of Nanomedicinal Materials committee of Chinese Society of Biomaterials. His researches are to develop nanopharmaceuticals for clinical trials and transfer FDA-certified licenses to pharmaceutical companies for production.

Dr. B.S. Murty is a Professor of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Madras since 2004 and is currently the Head of the Department. He started his career in Metallurgical Engineering with a Diploma (1983) from Government Polytechnic, Vijayawada. He obtained his BE from VRCE, Nagpur (1986), ME (1988) and PhD (1992) from IISc, Bangalore. He has started his professional career as a faculty member at IIT Kharagpur and served there during 1992-2004. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canadasince 2011.His fields of interest are microstructure-property correlations in nano materials and other advanced materials such as bulk metallic glasses, high entropy alloys and in-situ composites. He has authored about 350 journal publications. He has supervised 31 PhDs and 14 PhDs are ongoing. He has handled over50 sponsored research projects and filed 14 patents. He is a recipient of Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering, Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, Indian Institute of Metals, Asia Pacific Academy of Materials and ASM International. He is also the recipient of Metallurgist of the Year Award and Young Metallurgist Award of Ministry of Steel and Mines, GD Birla Gold Medal, MRSI Medal, INAE Young Engineer Award, INSA Young Scientist Award and ISCA Young Scientist Award.

Dr. Santanu Bhattacharya is Director and Senior Professor at Director’s Research Unit, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata (on deputation from Professor, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore) .He has been awarded several awards Ranbaxy Research Award in Pharmaceutical Science by Ranbaxy Science foundation, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar prize for Chemical Sciences CSIR. He has several publications and patents to his credit. He has received the J.C.Bose National Fellowship

B Ramakrishna is a Retired Faculty or Staff Arizona State University. Ramakrishna's research interests are in two areas -1) Biomaterials, and 2) Engineering Education. The problems in Biomaterials that he is interested in lie at the crossroads of Biology and Materials Science & Engineering. He investigates biological supramolecular assemblies such as proteins, membranes, and DNA that are capable of incorporating inorganic solids and precisely engineer their size, shape, and orientation at the nanometer scale. The work will lead to understanding the engineering design principles adopted by a variety of living systems such as plants, fungi and microbes. These are not only fascinating from the fundamental point of view but also have many potential applications. He is committed to bring about innovations in science and engineering education by infusion of cutting-edge research through student-researcher partnerships, visualization based technologies, and leading-edge telecommunications. He is actively engaged in designing innovative educational experiences for undergraduate students in engineering.

Dr. Sundara Ramaprabhu is Professor, Head, Alternative Energy and NanotechnologyLaboratory (AENL), Nano-Functional Materials Technology Centre (NFMTC) at Department of Physics, IIT Madras, Chennai . His Research Interest include Experimental Condensed Matter Physics Advanced Nanomaterials Science, Novel methods of synthesis of Graphene, Synthesis of different types of carbon nanostructures, Hydrogen in Metals, alloys, nano-composites and carbon nanotubes, Design and development of metal hydride storage devices, Diffusion of hydrogen in alloys, Novel methods of synthesis of different types of Carbon nanotubes, Carbon nanotubes as catalyst support in PEM Fuel Cells.He has several Publications to his credit.

Dr. Baldev Raj is the visiting faculty at PSG College of Technology. He is the director at Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research ,Kalpakkam , Tamil Nadu. His area of Specialisation include science and technology , fast breeder reactor with closed fuel cycle, material characterization, Material development and Technology Management. He has received several awards 1st Dr. Homi J Bhabha Centenary Year Award (2009), Ficci Award for outstanding contriburions to Science and Technology in context of Industries and societies.He has several publications to his credit.

Bimlesh Lochab is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry , School of Natural Sciences . Her research Interests include Synthetic organic chemistry / Green Chemistry: Dendritic architectures and polymers for electro-optic applications such as photovoltaic cells, OLEDs and composites Nano-chemistry: Graphene, Carbon nanotubes and Fullerene functionalisation Nanoparticles for nanocomposite applications. She is Post-Doctoral Fellow at University of Oxford, UK.She has several publications and patents to her credit.

Debajyoti Sarangi works as a Senior Research Scientist at Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore.He is involved in R&D pilot line optimisation for C-Si solar cell (mono and multi), Improvement of C-Si solar cell efficiency, yield, improve texturization, metallization and passivation. New device structure and is Directly working for the industry sponsored project.He has done his PhD from National Physical Laboratory and has several publications to his credit.

V. K. Kothari is professor at department of Textile Technology. His research interests include Testing and Quality Management, Nonwoven Fabrics, Technical Textiles, Clothing Comfort. He has several publications to his credit.He has Authored Chapter entitled “Role of Fiber Friction in Staple Fiber Processing” – Chapter 9 in the book “Friction in Textile Materials” Edited by B. S. Gupta - V. K. Kothari and A. Das, Published by Woodhead Publishing Co. Ltd. Cambridge, UK, 2008.

Dr. Debasis Chaira is an Assistant Professor at Dept. of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at ,NIT Rourkela, India.His research Interests include Synthesis of advanced materials, Nanomaterials , Mechanical alloying, Composite.He is the member of Professional bodies Life Member of Indian Institute of Metals (IIM), Member of Institution of Engineers (India).He has several Publications to his credit.

Prof. (Dr.) V.K. Suri, Former Vice-Chancellor, Chander Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur graduated in 1976 and obtained M.Sc. Degree in Soil Science in 1979 from the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He did his Ph.D. in Soil Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur ( A Grade) where he also served as Senior Research Assistant till 1986 (1982-1986). Dr. Suri is a recipient of the National Science Talent Scholarship from B.Sc. to Ph. D. He has served as the Head, Department of Soil Science at the CSK H.P. Agril. University at Palampur (HP). Dr Suri has taught 23 different courses to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students continuously during the last 20 years. He has guided several students both at the UG and PG levels who are serving the SAU/ICAR NARS system and beyond like Australia & USA. He also helped in designing 4 new academic courses in frontier areas apart from carrying out laboratory and farm development work worth crores of rupees. In recognition of his teaching abilities and dedication to students, Dr Suri has been bestowed with the CV Kapur Distinguished Teacher Award-2002 and several other awards.

Dr. Gargi Raina is the Professor & Director Incharge at Center for Nanotechnology Research, VIT University, Vellore. Her Research Interests include Functional Nanomaterials, Nanopatterning & Assembly techniques, SPM-based Nanolithography, Growth Optimization & Size-selection of Nanomaterials, Patterning and Lithography for Graphene, Simulation of CNT/Graphene based nanoscale devices and Plasmonic Nanolithography.

Dr. C. Gopalakrishnan is the Center In charge and has been with the center since its inception in 2006. He has finished his Masters from Trinity college, Dublin and is an expert in Ultra high vacuum systems and UHV-STM. He has over 21 publications in peered reviewed international journals, 2 national and 1 international patents, and many international conferences. He was awarded the prestigious scholarship under National Science Foundation Program, Ireland. He was a guest scientist at Max Planck Institute for microstructure physik, Halle, Germany. His areas of interest are Nano - structured Materials, Nano - magnetism, Thin Film Technology, Semiconductor applications, E Beam Evaporation and Lithography, Memory Storage Devices, Synthesis and Characterization of Nanomaterials, Magnetism based drug carrier vehicles, Nanoscale scaffolds for tissue engineering, Instrumentation of Vacuum Systems including High vacuum and Ultra high vacuum systems etc.

Dr. J. S. Yadav is (former Director, CSIR-IICT) at INDIAN INSTITUTE OF CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY. He has received several awards Honorary Doctorate from University of Rennes, France in 2015, CSIR Technology Award for Misoprostol Drug in 2014, Laureate of the 22nd Khwarizmi International Award, IROST-UNESCO, Iran in 2008. Ranbaxy Research Award in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Vasvik Award for Chemical Sciences & Technology, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in Chemical Sciences. He has published over 1100 Research Papers in Indian and Foreign Journals. He has more than 150 Indian & International Patents and > 20000 citations. 190 Students have been awarded their Ph.D. degree under his Guidance. His research interests include Enantiomerically pure compounds from Natural Products and via asymmetric Synthesis, Y Development of new Synthetic methods and reagents, Y Synthetic Drugs.

Peng Liu obtained his Ph.D. degree in computational organic chemistry from University of California, Los Angeles in June 2010 working under the supervision of Dr. Kendall N. Houk. He was a postdoctoral scholar in Dr. Houk’s group at UCLA from 2010-2014. Peng's research focuses on computational studies of organometallic and organic reactions and polymer and nano-materials. He has published over 50 papers and involved in many collaborations with various experimental groups. He is working as an Assistant Professor,at University of Pittsburgh .He has been awarded the Chancellor's Award for Postdoctoral Research (UCLA) in 2012, MBI Postdoctoral Award for Research Excellence (UCLA), Saul and Sylvia Winstein Award (UCLA) in 2010, Majeti-Alapati Fellowship for Research in Organic Chemistry (UCLA) in 2009. He has several publications to his credit.

Mr.Raj K Gupta is President elutions Integrated systems Inc, San Fransisco USA. His research interests include semiconductors, silicon sensors and MEMS. His Technical background includes silicon-based electronic devices, electromagnetics, laser optics and spectroscopy, mechanical sensors, CAD and finite-element modeling.He has several Publications to his credit.

Professor Rajiv Prakash completed his PhD (Chemistry) in year 2000 and M.Tech. in 1996 in Materials Technology with BHU Gold Medal from IT, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Dr. Prakash was Scientist in IITR CSIR Lucknow for more than 7 years before joining the School of Materials Science and Technology. Presently he is Professor in Materials Science and Technology in Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi. He is recipient of Young Scientist (UPCST) and Young Engineers (INAE) Awards of India and recently Materials Research Society, India Medal Award (2010). He is member advisory committee of TIFAC (DST) for India technology Vision plan 2035. He has published more than 110 papers in peer reviewed international journals and having 16 patents in his credit (one technology transfer).

Dr. Rakesh Kumar has got his postdoctoral training between Sept. 2006 to Oct. 2008 at School of Natural Polymer and Physics, Department of Chemistry, Wuhan University, China. He obtained his Ph.D degree in Biopolymers from IIT Delhi, India in the year 2006. He has received his M.Tech degree from IIT BHU, Varanasi, India and M. Sc. from IIT Roorkee, India in 1998 and 1996, respectively.In Dec. 2008, he joined as a Senior Researcher at Material Science and Manufacturing Unit, Port Elizabeth, South Africa. In March 2012, he joined BIT Mesra, Patna Campus as an Assistant Professor. Presently, he is an Associate Professor in Biotechnology at Central University of South Bihar, Patna. Dr Kumar focuses his research on soy protein isolate, polylactic acid and polyfurfuryl alchol based biopolymers and biocomposites. He has delivered several talks at National and International conferences and also published around 10 papers in National Journals. He was awarded Chinese Patent from his postdoctoral work. CSIR, South Africa has filed South African and World Patent for his innovative work entitled “Polyfurfuryl Alcohol Based Materials”.

Dr. Rinti Banerjee is the Professor, Department of Biosciences & Bioengineering, IIT Bombay since February 2009 – Present.His research Interests include Nanomedicine: nanostructured biomaterials, nanotechnology platforms for drug delivery and therapeutics, pulmonary surfactants, cancer nanotechnology, liposomes and lipid self assembled nanostructures. She has been awarded the National Woman Bioscientist Award 2011, Indo American Frontiers Of Engineering Award 2010, Felicitation Award, Society for Cancer Research & Communication 2009, AICTE Career Young Teacher Award 2005-2006, Life Member, National Academy of Sciences India. She has several publications to her credit.

Dr. Swaminathan Sivaram is a polymer chemist, mentor and science manager of distinction. Dr. Sivaram has over forty years of experience in basic research, process/product R&D and S&T management, both, in industry and academia. He is widely recognized for his contributions to polymer science, technology development, institution building and management of innovation in publicly funded organizations.An alumnus of IIT-Kanpur (M.Sc. 1967), he received his Ph.D in Chemistry from Purdue University, W. Lafayette, Indiana, USA in 1971.

Professor Samuel Adeloju is Professor of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry;School of Applied Sciences and Engineering, Monash Institute for Nanosciences, Materials and Manufacture Australia. . His current research activities include Fabrication of Electrochemical Nanobiosensors; Synthesis of Novel Nanocomposite Materials .

Dr. Samit Kumar Ray is Dean and Professor at Indian Institute of Technology.His research Interests include Condensed Matter Physics, Semiconductor nanostructures, Thin Films, Photovoltaics. He has been awarded several awards MRSI-ICSC Superconductivity & Materials Science Annual Prize (2015), INSA Young Scientist Award (1993), Homi J. Bhabha Award : University Grants Commission (2001), MRSI Medal Award (2007),CDIL Award for Industry of IETE (1997).He has several publications to his credit.

Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay K. Sharma is a very well-known author and Editor of many books, research journals and hundreds of articles from last twenty years. He has also been appointed as Series Editor by Springer, London for their prestigious book series ‘Green Chemistry for Sustainability’. He started working additionally in the field of Environmental Chemistry and Green Chemistry and produced very good research papers and books during his twelve years long stay at Institute of Engineering & Technology, Alwar, Rajasthan. India.His work in the field of Green Corrosion Inhibitors is very well recognized and praised by international research community. Other than this he is known as a person who is dedicated to educate people about environmental awareness, especially for Rain Water Harvesting.Presently he is working as Professor of Chemistry at Jaipur Engineering College & Research Centre, JECRC Foundation, Jaipur (Rajasthan) India. Dr. Sharma has delivered many guest lectures on different topics of applied Chemistry in various reputed institutions. His students appreciate his teaching skills and hold him in high esteem.

Koppula Purushotham Reddy is doing his post doctoral research at Department of Radiology, School of Medicine,University of Missouri, Columbia. He did his PhD from Birla Inst. of Technology & Science, India in Stem cell biology.His research interests include Limbal stem cell culture by ex-vivo explant technique, preparation of denuded amniotic membrane and characterization of cultured limbal stem cells by IFA and IHC, Experience in a broad range of cell, molecular biology, protein biochemistry and immunology lab techniques, Experienced in isolation, culture and establishment of various adult stem cells (Limbal, Bone Marrow Mesenchymal), handling of human and mouse embryonic stem cells. He has several publications to his credit.

Prof. Suash Deb did his Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, India & Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Computer Science from the University of Calcutta. He had been to Stanford University, USA as a UN Fellow for advanced study in the field of computer vision. He was also an Asian Expert of the Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA), Dept. of Defense, Federal Govt. of USA. He has both industrial & academic experience with more emphasis on the later. He worked at the National Centre for Knowledge Based Computing as a Scientist as well as in the National Institute of Science & Technology, Berhampore as a Professor. Currently he is a Professor of the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, C.V.Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneswar, India. He specializes in Soft Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics and the related fields.

Is senior Research Associate, Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, University of Missouri-Columbia. He has done his Ph. D. Pharmacy University of Pune from Bharti Vidyapeeth University.
